Five Sickened By Diesel Fumes At O'Hare CTA Station

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Five CTA employees got nauseous and were taken to a hospital Thursday morning following a minor diesel fuel spill at the O'Hare Blue Line station.

The fuel spill brought a hazardous materials response from the Chicago Fire Department, and service on the Blue Line in that area was interrupted while the scene was cleaned up and secured.

About 7:30 a.m., service on the Blue Line was been suspended between the O'Hare and Rosemont stations because of fire department activity, according to a CTA rider alert. As a result, trains were operating only between Forest Park and Rosemont and shuttle buses were put into service to provide connecting service through the affected area between Rosemont and O'Hare.

There was a minor spill of diesel fuel and five CTA employees became nauseous after smelling the fuel, Fire Media said. Those employees were all taken to Resurrection Medical Center, where they were listed in good condition.

An EMS Plan I response, as well as a Level I HazMat response were called, according to Fire Media Affairs.

By about 7:50 a.m., the emergency responses were secured and trains were moving again, though the CTA advised customers that there would be some residual delays for a short time.
