Four Hurt When Loop Elevator Falls Five Floors

(STMW) --Four people were hospitalized Friday afternoon when an elevator they were in at a Near North Side parking garage dropped five stories.

An EMS Plan I, which sends at least five ambulances, was called about 3 p.m. at a parking garage at 60 E. Delaware Pl.

The elevator apparently malfunctioned and fell from the 15th to the 10th floor, where it then became stuck, according to Fire Media Affairs. The people were out of the elevator about 3:20 p.m.

Two were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and two to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to Fire Media Affairs. All four were in fair to serious, but stable, condition.

Fire Media had earlier said the elevator dropped from the fifth to the first floor.
