Field Museum Mourns Loss Of Storm Chaser Killed In Tornado

CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago’s Field Museum is mourning the loss of storm chaser Tim Samara and his son Paul, killed chasing a tornado in the name of science. WBBM’s John Cody has more.

Field Museum Project Manager Tom Skwerski says Tim Samara helped put together the Nature Unleashed exhibit five years ago an exhibit now on tour.

“He has got some incredible footage that he acquired by putting down these scientific probes in front of the path of tornadoes and actually videotaped the inside of a tornado,” said Skwerski.

Tim Samara started as electrical engineer but spent the last 20 years chasing tornadoes until the last one a multiple vortex storm that tumbled his car and also killed his son Paul.
