Police: Man Trying To Lure Children With Candy In Woodlawn

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police issued an alert Saturday warning Woodlawn residents of a man attempting to lure children with candy.

Children told police that while walking on the street they are approached by a man on foot or in a vehicle who offers candy, blows kisses and tries to get them to come to him, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives.

The most recent attempt happened about 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the 6200 block of South Drexel Avenue, the alert said. Children also reported attempts April 1, May 24 and June 4, all in the 6200-6300 blocks of South Cottage Grove Avenue.

The suspect is described as a black man, 20-30 years old, with brown eyes and black hair worn in dreadlocks with gold tips. He has been seen in a red Montana van and a white four-door vehicle with missing center caps from the wheels.

Anyone with information can call Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8380.
