(CBS) According to a report from the Tribune, the Cubs and No. 2 overall pick Kris Bryant have agreed on a contract.

Bryant, a third baseman who slugged 31 home runs at the University of San Diego last season, will receive a signing bonus around $6.7 million, beating top pick Mark Appel's $6.35-million deal with the Astros.

Reports indicated Appel took a hometown discount with Astros.
