(CBS) The iconic crystal football awarded to the winner of the BCS National Championship game will make its final appearance this season.

As the college football postseason prepares for a massive overhaul with the implementation of a four-team playoff during the 2014-15 season, College Football Playoff officials say they’ll roll out new hardware.

“We’re going to have a new trophy,”  CFP executive director Bill Hancock told CBSSports.com.

The move, according to the report, is prompted by a desire from the CFP to distance itself from the BCS.

The current trophy, which costs $30,000, has been award to the winner of the BCS National Championship since 1986.
