Suburban World War II Veteran Honored

PALOS PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- A World War II veteran from Palos Park was honored this afternoon because in the span of two weeks this summer, he is celebrating his 90th birthday and he and his wife are celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary.

The whole ceremony for 90-year-old George Pollitt was organized by his daughter Donna Morsovillo, who in 2007 founded Operation Welcome You Home.

She's honored hundreds of returning veterans and now her dad, who came home after World War II.

"So we thought, you know, he's 90. We need to do this for him. It's long overdue."

And George Pollitt says he was surprised and asked that people remember the men he went to war with.

"This is not only for me. It's for the all the guys that I served with... I always remember them. Never forget them."
