Police Warn Of SW Side Robberies

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police are warning residents in the Southwest Side Ashburn neighborhood about several armed robberies that happened earlier this month.

Authorities say four of the robberies are related and happened in the following locations:

-The 3900 block of West 78th Street on July 20 about 4:30 a.m.

-The 8400 block of South Kedzie Avenue on July 24, 2013 about 1:00 a.m.

-The 4100 block of West 76th Street on July 26, 2013 about 10:40 p.m.

-The 8300 block of South Kedzie Avenue on July 27, 2013 about 12:40 a.m.

Police believe the robberies involve two or three suspects, described as black males between 17 and 25 years old, according to a community alert issued by Area Central detectives. They stand between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10 and weigh between 130 and 260 pounds.

In each robbery robberies, the suspects approached victims, displayed a weapon and demanded their property.

Authorities are also warning residents about two separate robberies that happened July 24 and 26 in the 4300 block of West 79th Street, another alert said. In those cases, a suspect approached victims, showed a handgun and demanded property.

The suspect in those two robberies is described as a black man between 18 and 22 years old, standing between 5-foot-5 and 6-foot and weighing between 150 and 160 pounds.
