DCFS Investigates Daycare Center After Death Of 1-Year-Old
CHICAGO (STMW) -- The licensing division of the state Department of Children & Family Services is investigating a West Side daycare center where a 1-year-old girl was found unresponsive Tuesday and later died.
Tyla Carter, of the 1200 block of South 61st Street in Cicero, was found unresponsive Tuesday at a daycare center at 4222 W. Wilcox St., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. She was taken to Loretto Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 2:21 p.m. Tuesday.
DCFS is investigating the daycare center where the girl was being cared for, agency spokesman Dave Clarkin said. The licensing division of DCFS oversees all 14,000 daycare centers in Illinois, he said.
An autopsy Wednesday was inconclusive pending further studies, according to the medical examiner's office.
Area North detectives are investigating.
