Roof Collapses While Firefighters Battle South Shore Blaze
(STMW) -- A roof collapse during a fire at a South Shore building prompted an increased emergency response Friday night, but nobody was injured.
The fire started in a building in the 8000 block of South Marquette Avenue and was elevated to a two-alarm blaze when the roof collapsed, Fire Media Affairs said. Reports indicate the fire started about 6:40 p.m.
A mayday response -- indicating firefighters could be in distress -- was called after the roof collapse, but all firefighters were located unharmed, the fire department said.
