Off-Duty Chicago Cop Fights Off Rapist

(CBS) – An off-duty female Chicago police officer fought off a man who tried to rape her Thursday afternoon while she jogged in the Sauganash neighborhood.

The attack happened in the 5800 block of North Rogers between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., police said. Neighbors say the site of the incident is a jogging path used by people all the time.

A male suspect on a bicycle confronted the officer and tried to sexually assault her. The off-duty officer managed to fight him off, and he fled, police said.

Police say the officer went to the hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation continues.
