Epstein Thrilled With Farm System, Progress Needed At Big League Level

(CBS) -- Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein joined the Hit And Run Show Sunday morning on 670 The Score.

Epstein indicated he was pleased with the current state of the farm system.

"We're thrilled with the state of the farm system and the health of the organization overall relative to where we were about 18 months ago. I think from a consensus standpoint, we have gone from a bottom five farm system to a top five farm system and it usually takes a bit longer to do that," said Epstein.

However, he acknowledged that the Cubs still need to make more progress at the big league level.

"On the other hand, the big league picture hasn't been as pretty. When you are pushing forward in your farm system it is because you have high draft picks, because you are making trades and there is a price to pay at the big league level. That said, we can't help but feel a little bit disappointed that we haven't provided more consistent improvement with the young players at the big league level," said Epstein.
