Man Dead After Shooting In Austin Parking Lot

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man is dead after he was seriously wounded in a shooting early Sunday in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

The shooting happened a few minutes after 2 a.m. in the 300 block of South Cicero Avenue, police said.

Officer found the man, 28, with a gunshot wound to the upper chest in a gas station parking lot, police said.

He was walking with acquaintances through the gas station parking lot when he was shot, police said.

He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, rushed to surgery and pronounced dead about 5 a.m., police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the death but would not release his identification pending family notification.

No one is in custody as Area North detectives investigate.
