GLENVIEW, Ill. (CBS) – A car exploded into flames after colliding with a garbage truck in Glenview, killing three people.
CBS 2’s Suzanne Le Mignot reports on many questions in the wake of the tragedy.
Husband and wife, Wonsik Lim and Jungran Min perished with a friend inside the burning car.
“I’m so sorry for that accident,” said Seon Yong Min, a nephew of the couple.
Seon Yong Min, says Lim and Min came from Seoul, Korea 10 years ago to make Chicago their new home. Min says his aunt and uncle were on their way to pick up another friend and heading to a picnic. That’s when their car collided with aSkokie garbage truck at Harrision and Harlem in Glenview.
Min says after the collision, the car slid a half a block with the garbage truck.
“I think the garbage truck, very high speed, crash the car and slide together,” said Min.
“It’s definitely clear, the truck driver is over speed, we think that,” said David Park, a family friend.
The Village of Skokie website says: “The Village refuse truck had complete right of way and entered the intersection, at which time a passenger vehicle violated the two-way stop sign control and entered the intersection.”
Meantime, Glenview Police say there are no charges pending against the truck driver yet. Investigators are still trying to figure out how the crash happened. They hope to have the cause tomorrow. Min and Lim’s family, have hired an attorney.
