CHICAGO (STMW) -- A teen girl was wounded in a shooting Friday night in the Canaryville neighborhood on the South Side.

The girl, 15, was a passenger in the back seat of a vehicle in the 500 block of West 43rd Street about 11:15 p.m. when she heard a shot and realized that she had been hit, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

She was shot in the arm and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in "stable" condition, Greer said.

Nobody is in custody as Area Central detectives continue to investigate.
