Man Hit By Metra Train In Downers Grove

(STMW) -- A pedestrian was hospitalized after being hit by a Metra train Friday evening in Downers Grove.

The pedestrian was struck around 5:45 p.m. by Burlington North Santa Fe line Train No.1288 near the Main Street Metra station in Downers Grove, said Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.

A man was hit by the "slow-moving" eastbound train and taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with non-life threatening injuries, according to a statement issued by Downers Grove police.

Traffic in the area was stopped and the crossings at Main and Washington streets were closed while police investigated, according to the release. The crossings had been reopened and train traffic was set to resume normal operation as of 8:10 p.m., police said.
