(CBS) Illini fans pining for a new head coach in 2014 will have to wait at least one more year.

Illinois athletic director Mike Thomas said Monday that Tim Beckman will return in 2014 for this third season in Champaign.

In two seasons at Illinois, Beckman has gone 6-18 with just one Big Ten win.

Beckman broke the Illini’s streak of 20 consecutive Big Ten losses with a win over Purdue on Nov. 23.

One bright spot for Beckman’s 2013 campaign was the offensive surge that saw his team average 29.7 points per game, compared to just 16.7 points per game last season.

Though, some of the offensive success could be due to new offensive coordinator Bill Cubit.
