Consumer Myths Surround Cyber Monday
(CBS) – You absolutely have to buy on Cyber Monday to get the absolute lowest prices, right?
That's what stores want you to believe as consumers generate an estimated $1.8 billion in sales.
But CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker found four myths that might just have you stepping away from the computer screen for now.
Myth No. 1: Cyber Monday is the best time to save big on holiday gifts online. Not true. Even retailers promote Cyber Week; in fact, the best time to buy toys online is the first two weeks of December.
Myth No. 2: All retailers will offer free shipping on Cyber Monday. Not true. Shopper Wendy Burell reveals the fine print.
"On some stores yes, and on some stores, after a dollar value, yes," she says.
Myth No. 3: Cyber Monday deals are limited to national retailers. Not true: Check out your favorite local store; many offer online deals on Cyber Monday.
Myth No. 4: Electronics offer the best discounts on Cyber Monday. Not true.
You'll find plenty of electronics on sale, but you'll find nearly twice as many deals on clothing and footwear.
