HAMMOND, Ind. (STMW) – A 38-year-old Highland man was shot to death Friday night near the Game Time Bar, 2949 165th St., in Hammond’s Hessville section, the Post-Tribune is reporting.

Thomas Ferrell, of the 2500 block of River Drive in Highland, Ind., was pronounced dead at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago at 9:29 a.m., according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The Hammond police department responded to a call at 1:56 a.m., according to Lt. Rich Hoyda.

Ferrell was leaving the Game Time Bar and started to warm up the car early Saturday while his girlfriend used the restroom.

By the time the girlfriend came out, Ferrell had been shot in the abdomen, according to Hoyda.

An employee at the bar confirmed a shooting took place Friday night.

Police are still investigating. Anyone with information about the shooting can call Sgt. John Suarez at 852-2981.
