2 Charged With Chicago Lawn Murder

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men face murder and attempted robbery charges in connection with a fatal shooting early Monday in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the South Side.

Daquon E. Renfro, 19, and Antonio Cox, 20, each face one felony count of murder and one felony count of attempted robbery with a firearm, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

Christopher Lang, 23, was walking on the sidewalk in the 3400 block of West 72nd Place about midnight when the suspects exited a dark-colored sedan and fired at him, hitting him in the stomach, authorities said. Police said Lang was 25 years old.

Lang, who lived less than two blocks away from where he was shot, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 3:22 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy conducted Tuesday found Lang died of a gunshot wound to the torso and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.

Renfro, of the 6000 block of South Wabash Avenue, and Cox, of the 8400 block of South Throop Street, are scheduled to appear in bond court on Dec. 25.
