CHICAGO (CBS) – Police in the South Side Grand Crossing neighborhood seek a man who tried to kidnap a 15-year-old girl.

Area Central police detectives have issued a community alert and are seeking the public’s help in identifying the attacker.

Police News Affairs spokesman Hector Alfaro said that the girl was walking home from school at about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday near 74th Street and Greenwood Avenue when the attacker approached her from behind, grabbed her and attempted to force her into the parking lot of a nearby business.

Alfaro said that the girl broke free, ran to safety and called police.

The attacker is said to be white, in his 30s, about 5’10″ in height, weighs about 185 pounds, has a full beard and was last seen wearing a brown skull cap with logo, a puffy black jacket and dark blue carpenters’ pants.
