Resident Shoots Burglary Suspect

(STMW) – An alleged burglar was fatally shot by a resident during a Lower West Side break-in Friday morning.

Mario Viramontes, 31, was burglarizing a home in the 2000 block of West 21st Street about 9:09 a.m. when he was shot by a resident, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Viramontes, of the 2100 block of West Cermak Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said.

No charges had been filed and nobody was in custody in connection with the shooting Friday evening as Area Central detectives investigate.
