Man Fatally Struck By SUV In Aurora

AURORA, Ill. (STMW) -- A man died early Saturday after he was struck by an SUV in west suburban Aurora.

The unidentified man, thought to be in his 30s or 40s, was walking southbound on Broadway Avenue when he was struck by a 2006 Mitsubishi SUV shortly before 4 a.m. just north of Spring Street, according to a release from the Aurora Police Department.

The driver of the SUV, 39-year-old Cherise Wardlow, stayed at the scene, police said. She told officers that she was traveling southbound on Broadway in the right lane, when she heard "a loud thump" from the front of the vehicle.

When she stopped and discovered she had struck the man, Wardlow called police, the statement said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kane County Coroner's office, which will conduct an autopsy, could not be immediately reached for comment.

Wardlow, of west suburban Montgomery, was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said. There were no signs of alcohol or drugs at the scene.

Aurora police are investigating, and ask anyone who witnessed the crash to call investigators at (630) 256-5330.
