Garfield Park Residents Complain Gas Main Has Been Leaking For Days

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Residents of in the 4300 block of West West End Avenue are complaining about a natural gas main they say has been leaking for days and still hasn't been fixed.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports it's the hiss that's got the neighborhood feeling nauseous.

"It's a clear aroma of gas," said resident Laird Davis.

Student Dakota Keys says he's decided to just ignore it and says he can only smell it, "If I pay attention to it yes, but I chose not to pay attention to it."

A People's Gas van with two technicians sitting and watching the hiss we're monitoring it they tell to make sure it doesn't get worse.

But people who learn the smell gas is not good are worried.

Peoples Gas is preparing to make repairs to a large diameter natural gas main near West End & Kostner. Due to the larger than average size of this pipe, we are coordinating with CDOT and other underground utilities to ensure every precaution is taken to minimize disruption until our repairs are complete.

It should be complete in less than a week.
