By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) — Two Chicago police officers were injured after a car slammed into their SUV in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.

Police said the driver of the car ran a red light and crashed into their squad car around midnight at Kedzie and Warren.

The police SUV had its lights and sirens on and was responding to a call at the time of the accident.

The driver of the car tried to run away from the scene, but was quickly apprehended.

Police said alcohol may be a factor in the crash.

Both officers were taken to the hospital for treatment. One officer has been released, while the second is still hospitalized.
