Quintana Knocked Out Of Game By Line-Drive

By Bruce Levine-

GLENDALE, Ariz. (CBS) -- White Sox pitcher Jose Quintana was knocked out of a Spring Training game against the Arizona Diamondbacks after getting hit in the shin by a line drive.

White Sox starter Jose Quintana had to leave Saturdays start in the first inning due to an ankle injury. Arizona outfielder Manny Parra hit a line drive off of Quintana's left ankle causing what the team is calling a contusion.

"He (trainer) said I might miss only one day if the foot is good tomorrow" they said it is not broken," said Quintana. "I didn't see the ball (off of the bat) but it is okay I think I will make my next start (Thursday scheduled)."

Quintana was treated by trainers and was walking around on the iced foot when he talked to reporters.

The 25 year old left handed pitcher is penciled in as the teams number two starter behind Chris Sale. Quintana had a breakout season in 2013 . He won 9 games and lost only 7 for a team that lost 99 games. The White Sox gave the young pitcher only 3.19 runs per game in his 2013 starts. (second lowest in the American league )

It is always a matter of course in these types of injuries that the medical staff take a precautionary MRI after the swelling subsides.
