Suburban Fire Lieutenant Opens Firehouse-Themed Restaurant

(CBS) — A fire lieutenant and his wife are turning work into a business by opening “The Firehouse Pizza and Grill” on the side in west suburban Geneva.

Lt. Mike Huneke says the decor reflects the name with Red Walls, a black countertop, accented by shiny diamond non-skid patterns as seen on fire trucks.

Huneke says the menu reflects cooking learned in real firehouses where they continue to work. He says macaroni and cheese is one staple at firehouses on Friday nights.

Another gaining fans is the “backdraft” pizza which includes refried beans, onions and mozzarella cheese.

Huneke is the business manager, his wife, Christine, a paramedic is the owner of Firehouse Pizza and grill which has been operating for about a month but is having its grand opening Wednesday at 17 N Fourth Street in Geneva, Illinois.
