LANSING, Ill. (CBS) — Murder charges have been filed against a 21-year-old Lansing man in the death of his 2-year-old daughter earlier this week.
WBBM’s Mike Krauser reports the suspect has been identified as Jeremiah Thompson, father of two-year-old Jahariah Patterson.
The two-year-old was found unresponsive in her home on Wildwood Avenue near 179th Street Wednesday afternoon after a 911 call was made for a medical emergency. An autopsy found she died from multiple blunt force injuries from child abuse and her death was ruled a homicide.
Police are not offering details of what happened in the home. DCFS says Thompson did not have legal custody of the girl.
A spokesman for the village in a statement says, “We as a village are saddened by this precious loss of life and our heartfelt condolences go out to the loved ones.”
He says the community will hold a candlelight vigil in remembrance of her on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. on Wildwood Avenue.
Jakarria Patterson’s family has set up a fundraising website.
