Mother Who Lost Two Children In Crash Caused By State Trooper To Speak At Conference

(CBS) -- A mother of two teenage girls killed in a 2007 crash caused by an Illinois state trooper will speak directly to law enforcement about the dangers of distracted driving at the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association Conference this week.

Kimberly Schlau has learned to live with her grief by directly sharing with police officers what happened to her two teenage daughters. Jessica and Kelli Uhl both died in a car crash caused by an Illinois state trooper traveling at a high rate of speed while talking on his cell phone with his girlfriend.

"I am not bitter toward the police officer, I just want to make sure this doesn't happen to someone else," said Schlau.

Schlau says if she can save just one life by telling police officers to think twice behind the wheel before acting, then her daughters' deaths would have not been in vain.
