Bloomingdale Trail Work To Close Part Of Ashland This Weekend

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A third round of construction work on the Bloomingdale Trail bridge improvement project will shut down part of Ashland Avenue on the North Side this weekend.

The street will be closed to traffic in both directions between North Avenue and Armitage Avenue starting at 8 p.m. Friday, according to a release from the Chicago Department of Transportation.

Depending on whether work is completed ahead of schedule, the latest Ashland will reopen is by 5 a.m. Monday, the release said.

The CTA's Ashland Route #9 bus will be detoured east to Elston Avenue via North and Armitage avenues, while pedestrians and bicyclists will be directed west to Marshfield Avenue, according to CDOT.

Crews will be removing the bridge currently in place at Ashland and moving it to a work yard north of Walsh Park for cleaning, assessment and painting. It is then scheduled to be moved into place at Western Avenue in late April, the release said.

The Ashland work is not expected to be as loud as the bridge work completed earlier this month at Western and Milwaukee avenues because crews won't be using noisy pneumatic devices, the release said.
