Wauconda Police Shoot, Kill Man Armed With Gun

WAUCONDA, Ill. (STMW) -- Police shot and killed a man Monday afternoon after he allegedly refused to put a gun down in northwest suburban Wauconda.

A resident of the 100 block of Slocum Lake Road in Wauconda called police to his home about noon, believing that his roommate may be wanted by police and may have a stolen vehicle, Wauconda police said in a statement.

Officers arrived at the home, and about an hour later, found the 36-year-old roommate holding a handgun at the doorway of the house, police said.

When the man refused to put the gun away, the responding officers shot him, police said. He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he later died.

The Lake County Coroner's office could not be reached early Tuesday to confirm the death.

The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the shooting.
