(CBS) In a touching and creative cover photo to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings, Sports Illustrated featured thousands of Bostonians on its cover this week.

SI put out an open invitation last Saturday for people to come and be a part of the photo shoot that took place at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. This year’s race will be run Monday. Yesterday was the one-year anniversary of bombings that took the lives of three people and injured 260.

Mayor Martin J. Walsh, Police Commissioner William Evans, first responders, survivors and many well-wishers were among those who gathered Saturday.
