(CBS) It was just a small nugget in a larger story on Mike D’Antoni’s exit from the Lakers by Yahoo writer extraordinaire Adrian Wojnarowski, but it’s a quite intriguing nugget.
As the Lakers face a rebuilding offseason, star guard Kobe Bryant “will wish for Tom Thibodeau to free himself from Chicago,” Wojnarowski reported.
This is interesting because Wojnarowski is known to have a close writer-subject relationship with Bryant. While it doesn’t appear to mean anything at this point, it once again reflects the respect Thibodeau has garnered throughout the league.
After some midseason speculation that the Knicks wanted to pursue him, there’s little talk of Thibodeau being anywhere but Chicago next season. Thibodeau shot down much of that speculation late in the season as well.
Thibs on speculation: "I'm with a team that I love. I'm not sure why that'd be a question..I'm under contract. I'm planning on being here.''—

Thibodeau is under contract with the Bulls through the end of the 2016-’17 season.
