3 Dead, 10 Wounded In Thursday Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) – Three people were killed and at least 10 others were wounded in shootings across the city’s West and South sides Thursday.

The most recent fatal shooting occurred Thursday evening in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

Three men were on a porch in the 5700 block of South La Salle Street about 6:09 p.m. when someone walked out of a gangway and fired shots, police said.

Malcolm Stuckey, 19, of the 16000 block of Carrington Drive in South Holland, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m., police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.

A 23-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to the mouth and leg and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition, and a 24-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the foot and took himself to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, police said.

About 5:25 p.m., three people were shot in the 700 block of East 79th Street, police said.

Betty Howard, 58, of the 2200 block of South 14th Avenue in Broadview, was shot in the head and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

A 58-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were also shot and treated on the scene, police said. The man suffered a graze wound to his abdomen, and the woman sustained a graze wound to her hand.

Earlier Thursday afternoon, a man was shot to death in the South Shore neighborhood.

Craig Mitchell, 21, was found shot multiple times in the 2400 block of East 74th Street about 12:30 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:03 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said. His home address was not immediately known.

The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred Thursday night on the West Side.

About 11:10 p.m., a 24-year-old man was inside an apartment in the 300 block of North Lockwood Avenue when two people wearing dark hooded sweatshirts came inside, police said. One of them pulled out a handgun and shot the man in the leg before they both left the apartment and ran away, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in “stable” condition, police said.

About 3 p.m., a man was shot outside a school in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

A 20-year-old man was shot in the 1600 block of South Avers Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs. Police said the man was 18.

He was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to Fire Media.

The shooting happened in the street, across from William Penn Elementary School at 1616 S. Avers Ave., according to fire officials. The school was temporarily put on lockdown, but the lockdown was lifted as of 3:35 p.m., Fire Media said. A source said an alternate route was used for school dismissal. Police said the man has no relationship to the school and the shooting did not occur on school property.

About two hours earlier, a man was shot in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

The 22-year-old was standing in the 1700 block of West 81st Street at 1:10 p.m. when someone walked up and shot him, police said. He was shot in the foot and taken in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital.

About noon, a man was seriously hurt in a shooting in the Austin neighborhood.

The shooting happened in the 4900 block of West Huron Street, police said. A 24-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

Thursday morning, another man was shot in Back of the Yards neighborhood.

A 22-year-old man was standing on the street in the 5400 block of South Winchester Avenue about 10:30 a.m. when he was shot in the arm, police said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in “stable” condition.

Thursday’s first shooting occurred about 3:58 a.m., when a 21-year-old man was shot in the Washington Park neighborhood.

The man was at a parking lot in the 5400 block of South Wentworth Avenue when someone opened fire, striking him in the buttocks and leg, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in “stable” condition, police said.
