8 Wounded In Shootings Across Chicago On Wednesday

CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least eight people were wounded--one critically--in shootings across the city on Wednesday.

The most recent shooting happened about 11:45 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Escanaba Avenue, where a 21-year-old man was driving when someone opened fire, striking the man in the face and back, police said.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in "stable" condition, police said.

About three hours earlier, two men were shot in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the South Side.

The men, ages 20 and 23, were walking in the 1300 block of West 91st Street about 8:35 p.m. when at least two other people approached them and started shooting, police said.

The 20-year-old was shot in the back, and the older man was shot in the leg. Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in "stable" condition, police said.

Less than an hour earlier, a 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

He was walking about 7:50 p.m. in the 6000 block of South Francisco Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain, police said.

He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital. His condition was not immediately known, police said.

A drive-by shooting wounded a 29-year-old man in Englewood Wednesday afternoon.

He was a riding as a passenger in a van in the 6600 block of South Union Avenue about 4:25 p.m. when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire, police said.

The man was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center in good condition with a graze wound to his ear, police said.

About 10:45 a.m., a 20-year-old man was riding in a car in the 0-100 block of North Central Avenue in the Austin neighborhood when a red minivan pulled up and someone inside fired, hitting the man in the face, police said.

He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, police said.

Just after midnight, a man and woman were shot at a party in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

The 21-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were at a party in the 6300 block of South Wood Street when a male started shooting at 12:05 a.m., police said.

The man was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the foot, and the woman was taken to Stroger in "stable" condition with a gunshot wound to the thigh, police said.
