None Hurt In Hazel Crest Home Explosion

(CBS) — It was a rude awakening for people in the south suburbs after an explosion early Sunday morning rocked one neighborhood.

The explosion blew out all four walls of a home on Orchard Ridge Drive and then sparked a fire. The home had apparently been vacant for a while.

No one was hurt, but neighbors say the sound was frightening.

“We didn’t know whether it was the gas explosion or what but it was so loud,” said Odeann Johnson. “Very scary.”

Some of the debris from the explosion actually landed on the roof of a house next door and in the street. The cause of the blast is under investigation.
