Body Found Along Des Plaines River Trail In Gurnee

Updated 06/19/14 - 1:37 p.m.

GURNEE, Ill. (CBS) -- A body has been found along the Des Plaines River trail in north suburban Lake County, near where a 57-year-old man vanished while riding his bike earlier this month.

The body was found around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Lake Carina Forest Preserve in Gurnee, but Forest Preserve Police and the Coroner's office said the body was too badly decomposed to determine an age or identity.

The Lake County Coroner's office has not yet released a cause of death, but said it was not a homicide.

Andrew Adler, 57, disappeared on June 8 after leaving home for a bike ride. His wife, Kay Adler, said he was heading out on his blue Cannondale mountain bike for a morning ride. Normally, he'd ride for two to four hours, but this time he never came back.

She said her husband normally rode on the Des Plaines River trail, which is where a man's body was discovered Wednesday night.

The Lake County Coroner's office said DNA sampling on the body that was found would take a few days. DNA samples from the body will be compared to Adler's son to determine if there is a match.
