Cops Look At Rest-Stop Murder Suspect In 1993 Drowning

(CBS) – A drowning case more than 20 years old is reopened as police try to determine if a recent double murder suspect was involved.

Terence Doddy of Rockford is accused of killing two people, one at a rest stop in northern Illinois, before leading police on a high-speed chase earlier this month.

He was arrested after he crashed the vehicle he was driving, and now police are looking into whether Doddy is involved with his ex-girlfriend's death back in 1993.

Fifteen-year-old Stephanie Johnston drowned in 1993, back when the high school sophomore was dating Doddy.

That connection has authorities taking another look.

"I'm thrilled, because I hope that we finally get the answers that we've been waiting for 20 years," says Jenny Drake, who was a friend of Stephanie Johnston. "I know that she did not do this herself."

There were never any indications of foul play surrounding Johnston's death, but investigators say now that Doddy is accused of two murders, it could change things.
