Police: Man In Custody For East Chicago Shooting Over Love Triangle

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man is in custody after an apparent love triangle ended in the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old East Chicago, Ind., man Sunday morning.

The Lake County coroner's office identified the victim as Luis Walker-Carrion and classified his death as a homicide. He was pronounced dead at 5:11 a.m. at St. Catherine's Hospital in East Chicago. Authorities said he lived in the 3700 block of Deodar Street and was found shot in the alley near his home.

Police Chief Mark Becker offered an initial account of the shooting saying Walker-Carrion was with his girlfriend when another man called her. "The investigation indicates the shooter called this girl and her boyfriend got involved in the conversation," Becker said.

"This appears to be a feud involving a girlfriend," Becker said.

Police believe Walker-Carrion took a shotgun outside to the confrontation with the other man.

"I'm not sure if we have a murder or a self-defense issue. It will be presented to prosecutor tomorrow," he said.

The alleged shooter left the scene, but was apprehended by police after they stopped his vehicle. Becker said the 34-year-old Whiting man was arrested without incident.
