City Council Committee Approves $1.25 Million Settlement To Family Of Man Killed By Police In 2012
(CBS) -- Chicago aldermen are recommending the City pay $1.25 million to the family of a man shot to death by police, allegedly while fleeing.
WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports the City Council's Finance Committee has approved a big settlement in the 2012 case of 23-year-old Jamaal Moore. First Assistant Corporation Counsel Leslie Darling says he was a suspect at the time.

"Following a police pursuit of a vehicle that was allegedly involved in a robbery, Jamsal Moore Sr. was struck and dragged under a police squad car. Then a Chicago Police officer fatally shot him. No gun or other weapon was found at the scene and Mr. Moore's mother has sued the city and two police officers for the benefit of Moore's young son, alleging that the officers used excessive force," Darling said.
The Independent Police Review Authority found the shooting justified but Darling says surveillance video of the incident might persuade a jury otherwise.
The full council will likely approve the settlement Wednesday.
