Supply Of New iPhone 6 Has Landed In Chicago

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Attention Chicago, the iPhone 6 has landed.

Tons of them, literally.

A shipment of Apple's new phone has arrived at O'Hare International Airport, according to a pilot who posted a photograph of the concealed shipment on MacRumors.

"Yep, that's what I do. I fly stuff," according to the MacRumors post by "goforblacksky." "Privileged to be a small part of the Apple supply chain. Just landed a 747 full of iPhone 6's in Anchorage.

"Another crew will take the airplane on to Chicago. It'll be on the ground at O'Hare about 9 a.m. Sept. 15. I gave it a little extra gas coming over the Pacific, just to get them here a little quicker. You're welcome."

The cargo shipment originated in China. "goforblacksky" said the load of phones weighed approximately 256,000 pounds (128 tons).

Those who pre-ordered the phone will start receiving them on Friday.

Apple will have the phones available for customers willing to wait in line and purchase in store that same day.

Yesterday's shipment is reportedly not the first to arrive in Chicago.

China Daily published a photo showing what it said were 93 tons of the mobile devices being loaded on a Boeing 777 bound for Chicago on Sept. 10--the day after Apple unveiled the phone to the public.
