U Of C Launches Program To Help Government, Nonprofit Officials Become Better Leaders

(CBS) -- The University of Chicago has just launched a training academy to teach the leaders of not-for-profit groups and local government to be better leaders, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

The U of C's Civic Leadership Academy is a six-month program for upper level government nonprofit officials.Joanie Friedman, the universities director of civic partnership, says there will be training in everything in leadership and financing to data analytics.

"Leaders are so hunger for professional development of this sort, a very rigorous, interdisciplinary, combining nonprofit and government leaders," she said.

They will finish up with a capstone project key to solving one of their own organization's problems.

"We hope it is of practical use and value to their own organization and that it helps them develop a more robust toolset for on they hit the next project at the end of the academy," she said.

The applicants have to be nominated by their organization between now and November 15.
