Second Suspect Charged In South Shore Murder

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A second man has been charged with murder for fatally shooting a 16-year-old last week in the South Shore neighborhood.

Dahvie Holmes, 20, of the 7600 block of South South Shore Drive, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the Sept. 30 shooting death of 16-year-old Camerion Blair, authorities said.

Blair was shot in the back and buttocks about 6:10 p.m. in the 2600 block of East 73rd Street, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Blair, of the 7300 block of South Shore Drive, was taken to South Shore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m., the medical examiner's office said.

Robert Smith, 21, of the 7600 block of South Coles Avenue, has also been charged with first-degree murder for the shooting, authorities said.

Prosecutors said last week during Smith's bond hearing that he and Blair were members of opposing gang factions, and that surveillance video captured Smith and another suspect -- later identified as Holmes -- both approaching and fleeing from the scene of the shooting.

Smith was arrested after a search of his home, prosecutors said. He was positively identified in a photo lineup and allegedly admitted to the shooting.

He was ordered held without bond and is next scheduled to appear in court Oct. 23, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.

Holmes is scheduled for a bond hearing Wednesday.
