The dogs were taken around 6 p.m. on Monday during a rainstorm.

"They were brought up as family dogs, so it was easy to get them, they were pretty rough on them," said Jose Pena. "They threw them over the fence"

Pena, who lives in the house with extended family, says surveillance video from the eight cameras trained on the house, yard, garage and alley captured the crime.

Three young men are seen getting out of a white Buick with temporary plates that had parked in the alley.

They jumped over the fence, and threw the dogs into the yard of the vacant home next door.

They're American Bullies, that can cost more than $1,000 each.

He stood looking at the cameras in the back yard and said, "it's pretty crazy that you can't be safe even at your own house with surveillance. People will come and steal, like your family member."

His nieces love the dogs, he said and they're devastated.

Pena thinks the thieves are from the neighborhood.

He said the same thing happened to a neighbor's dog, which was the same breed.

Police say they're investigating.
