4 Dead, 14 Wounded In Weekend Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four men were killed and at least 14 other people wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening.
The most recent fatal shooting happened early Monday on the South Side.
About 12:20 a.m., Andrew Brown, 46, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest on a sidewalk in the 3000 block of East Cheltenham Place, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Brown, of the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue in Evanston, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:49 a.m., authorities said.
Early Sunday, a man was shot to death in a vehicle in the West Englewood neighborhood.
The 29-year-old was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the face at 4:47 a.m. in a vehicle in the 1500 block of West 72nd Place, police said.
He was sitting in the front passenger side of the parked vehicle when someone walked up and fired shots, police said.
The medical examiner's office confirmed the fatality but had not released the man's identity as of Sunday night.
Saturday night, a man was killed in an Englewood neighborhood shooting that injured another man.
Rayvon Little, 20, was standing outside with a 19-year-old man about 7 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Morgan when a group of people walked by and one person in the group opened fire, striking both men, authorities said.
Little, who lived on the same block as the shooting, was shot in the abdomen and leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:07 p.m., authorities said.
The 19-year-old man was shot in the leg and was also taken to Stroger, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
The weekend's first fatal shooting happened about 7:10 p.m. Friday at See Thru Chinese Kitchen in the West Side Austin neighborhood, authorities said.
Chang Z. Qui, 41, was working at the restaurant at 5249 W. Madison when he was shot in the back by a gunman demanding money, authorities said. The attacker ran away after the shooting.
Qui, of the 3200 block of West Wallace, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:02 p.m., authorities said.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened Monday morning in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
A 32-year-old man was in the 3900 block of West Lexington about 6:11 a.m. when he was shot in the shoulder, police said. He took himself to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
An hour earlier, a man was shot in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood.
The 18-year-old was shot in the left thigh about 5:10 a.m. while in the 1600 block of North Hamlin, police said, citing preliminary information. He took himself to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where his condition was not known Sunday morning.
Just after midnight Monday, a man was shot during an attempted robbery on the Near West Side.
A 28-year-old man was sitting in a parked car about 12:10 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Randolph when a white sedan pulled up alongside him and someone inside announced a robbery, police said. As he began to drive away, the offenders in the white car opened fire, striking the man with a bullet in the arm that went through to his chest, police said.
He then crashed his car into a median in the 700 block of West Randolph, police said. He was taken to Stroger in critical condition.
At least 10 other people have been wounded in shootings across the city since 7:05 p.m. Friday.
Additionally, a 32-year-old man was shot by police officers Saturday night in Englewood, about 8:15 p.m. in the 5800 block of South Morgan.
Englewood District tactical officers responding to a call of a man with a gun spotted someone matching the radio description and chased him to the back of a residence, police said.
An officer saw the man holding a weapon and told him to drop it, and when he didn't comply, officers opened fire, police said. A police union spokesman said the man was shot three times.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department. Police said a weapon was recovered from the scene.
Police announced early Monday that Kurtis Garrett, 32 of the 6200 block of South Ada Street, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer in the incident.
