Joe Maddon Gets 5-Year, $25-Million Deal
(CBS) What had been speculated for a good 10 days and reported late last week is now official.
Joe Maddon is the 54th manager in the history of the Cubs.
The team made the move official early Monday afternoon ahead of a 2 p.m. introductory press conference at the Cubby Bear, kitty corner from Wrigley Field on Clark and Addison. His deal is for five years and is worth $25 million, sources told 670 The Score's Bruce Levine. It will run through the end of the 2019 season and doesn't include an opt-out clause, according to reports. The contract also reportedly includes incentives for postseason success.

The 60-year-old Maddon has a career winning percentage of .517. In nine seasons managing Tampa Bay, he led the team to six winning seasons. In that tenure, the Rays went to the playoffs four times, including a trip to the 2008 World Series.
Maddon was named the AL Manager of the Year in 2008 and 2011.
Maddon has 40 years of professional baseball experience, including 21 at the big league level.
