Derrick Rose Is Day-To-Day With 'Mild Strain' Of Hamstring

(CBS) Breathe easy, Bulls fans.

The left hamstring injury point guard Derrick Rose suffered Thursday night in a win at Toronto isn't considered serious, as coach Tom Thibodeau on Friday called it a "mild strain." Rose didn't undergo an MRI, and he's considered day-to-day. The Bulls host the Pacers on Saturday night.

Rose exercised on the treadmill and stationary bike Friday, the Tribune's K.C. Johnson reported.

"I understand everybody wants to see him out there, but we don't want to put him out there before he's ready," Thibodeau said, according to ProBasketballTalk's Sean Highkin.

While it may be considered a minor inury by Rose and the Bulls, don't confuse that to mean he'll be back in the lineup right away. The Bulls have been and will continue to be conservative in the usage of their star. Coming off successive season-ending knee injuries, Rose has the added trouble of suffering two sprained ankles in the early season, when he's been on a restriction of about 32 minutes a night. Rose has played in five of Chicago's nine games.

Rose suffered the injury late in Thursday's game when he drove the lane and stepped awkwardly. His left ankle appeared to turn funny, but Rose made no mention of that being problematic.

Rose is averaging 18.0 points and 5.4 assists this year while shooting 43 percent.
