Illinois Barely Makes 'Top 20 States That Love Green-Bean Casserole' List (A Prestigious List, We Assure You)

By Mason Johnson

Are you a fan of green beans?

I'm not. Mostly, I do not trust them. With the tastes of an eight-year-old, I'm probably not the best person to tackle the subject of green beans. I attempted to ask a friend why she likes green beans, but she turned the conversation around to interrogate my suspicious dislike of them, so that didn't go well.

Regardless, it would seem that my distaste for green beans is not shared by much of Illinois.

According to the "Top 20 U.S. States That Love Green-Bean Casserole" list that was compiled by Del Monte (who obviously has an inherent bias toward green beans), 61% of Illinois' residents "really like or love" green-bean casserole. That makes Illinois #18 on their list.

Yes, 17 other states love green beans more than us. How could we let this happen?

Topping the list of 20 states was Kentucky at number one, with Wisconsin and Missouri taking the second and third positions; 78%, 77% and 76% of residents in those state love green-bean casserole, respectively. The full list is below...

In an attempt to find the best Thanksgiving dishes, the New York Times "scoured the nation for recipes that evoke each of the 50 states." Green-bean casserole was on the list not once, but twice.

No, it wasn't the dish chosen for Illinois -- that was Pumpkin Soup With Ancho and Apple.

The state that was given green-bean casserole was Oklahoma, which comes in at a measly number 11 on Del Monte's list.

Apparently the New York Times needs to get their, uh, green beans together.
