Madigan Releases Annual Safe Shopping Guide Featuring Potentially Unsafe Children's Products

(CBS) -- Attorney General Lisa Madigan's annual Safe Shopping Guide features more than 100 children's products that have been recalled in the last year, ranging from small toys to strollers and cribs.

In addition to highlighting potentially unsafe toys and products, for the first time the guide features tips on preventing identity theft.

"Not only do parents and caregivers need to be wary of the kinds of toys and products they buy for their children this holiday season, they need to be careful about how they pay for them," Madigan said in a press release. "Incorporating a few simple steps into your routine can greatly minimize the risk of becoming an identity theft victim and reduce the damage that may result if your information is compromised."

Madigan recommends setting up transaction alerts, regularly reviewing your bank and credit card statements, reviewing your credit report for unauthorized accounts and considering putting a security freeze on your credit.
