1 Killed, 1 Hurt In Aurora Shooting

(STMW) -- Two men were shot--one fatally--in west suburban Aurora late Saturday.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the about 11:35 p.m. in the 200 block of West Park Avenue and found 46-year-old Daniel W. Spencer shot multiple times, including once in the head, according to a statement from Aurora city spokesman Dan Ferrelli.

Spencer, of the 300 block of Plum Street in Aurora, was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center before being airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m., Ferrelli said. An autopsy was pending Sunday morning.

Spencer may have been shot by someone in an older model, "box-style" silver SUV, similar to a Suzuki Sidekick that was seen speeding from the scene, officials said.

About midnight, a 29-year-old Aurora man was dropped off at Mercy Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He was treated and later released, officials said.

He told investigators he was walking near West Park Avenue and Lake Street when he was shot, possibly by someone in a dark-colored SUV, officials said.

Police think both men were shot in the same incident. A motive has not been determined.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police at (630) 256-5500, or to provide anonymous tips to Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.
